Pierce heads North Shore sanitary district board:

North Shore Sanitary District's board of trustees recently elected their leaders at a meeting in Gurnee.

Sanitary district Trustee Daniel Pierce of Highland Park was unanimously re-elected as president. Pierce, a former state representative and mayor of Highland Park, has served as board president since December 2009. He also had a stint in that leadership capacity from December 2006 to December 2008.

Sanitary district Trustee Stephen Drew of Waukegan and Trustee John Paxton of Winthrop Harbor were re-elected vice president and treasurer, respectively. Trustees James Swarthout of Lake Forest and Effie Wroten of North Chicago round out the board.

The district serves approximately 315,000 residents and receives taxes from those in Winthrop Harbor, Zion, Beach Park, Waukegan, Gurnee, Grayslake, Park City, North Chicago, Great Lakes Naval Station, Green Oaks, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Highwood, Fort Sheridan, Highland Park, Bannockburn and Deerfield. It collects and conveys wastewater from local sewer systems to its treatment plants in Waukegan, Highland Park and Gurnee.
