Kids can get haircuts, makeovers at Sharkey's in Algonquin
The first Illinois location of Sharkey's Cuts for Kids recently opened on Randall Road in Algonquin.
The business offers haircuts for children in a fun environment.
Sharkey's also does updos, glamour makeovers, manicures, colorful hair extensions, birthday parties and fundraisers. And on top of that, they sell fun little toys and stocking stuffers.
It is the first business for two husband-and-wife teams Amy and Kelly Seibert, and Amy and Eric Pagels.
The couples were looking to open a franchise together when they came across Sharkey's.
“We all have young children, ages 7 and (younger), and we loved the concept of a fun place for the kids to get their haircut and have glamour parties for the girls,” Amy Seibert said.
“We also love the gifts and toys that are sold in the store and we really like the bright colors of the place.”
Seibert said the store's visibility along Randall Road isn't the greatest, but once you hear it's next to Oberweis, at 1497 S. Randall, you'll know exactly where it is.
More and more people are starting to find Sharkey's, she said.
So far, they've been busy hosting fundraisers for local school districts, and helping girls have some fun with their hair and appearance.
The salon's clients are anyone from ages 0 to 13, Seibert said. However, its target audience is kids from kindergarten through fifth grade for birthday parties and girl gatherings.
For the haircuts, Sharkey's does have toddler chairs and fun things for the kids to keep them occupied while they're getting their hair cut.
The salon is hoping to reach out to local cheerleading squads, people participating in pageants and any kids going to a formal occasion, such as a daddy-daughter dance too, Seibert said.
It hosts birthday parties in the “glamour” room. The kids get an updo and makeup application. Kids get to sing karaoke and are videotaped.
“It's lots of fun,” Seibert said.
Soon, she said, Sharkey's will be hosting monthly “kids' nights out,” where parents can drop their children off for two hours and they'll get glamour makeovers.
