Scouting Waubonsie Valley boys basketball

Waubonsie Valley

Coach: Steve Weemer (sixth year, 79-63; eighth overall, 97-94).

Last year: 9-18, 5-5, eighth in the Upstate Eight Conference; lost 50-38 to West Aurora in a Class 4A Waubonsie Valley regional quarterfinal.

Top players: Xavier Biles, sr., G; Jared Brownridge, so., G; Tyler Edmondson, sr., F; Austin Keys, sr., F; Jakobi Johnson, sr., G; Nick Lisauskas, sr., F; Ravi Patel, sr., G; Tyler Yanisch, jr., G.

Scouting report: Weemer hopes success comes quick to build confidence after last year, the Warriors’ worst since 1995-96. This deep group has good size, better athleticism and speed, bolstered by the transfers of explosive 6-5 finisher Keys (Oswego East) and Biles (Clark), who can help Johnson extend the defense. Brownridge led an 18-7 sophomore team in scoring while Johnson and the 6-8 Edmondson look to bulk up averages of 7.2 and 5.4 points, respectively. Hard to believe Johnson led Waubonsie with 37 assists last season. If the Warriors can rebound, play defense and score from arc to post as anticipated, he and/or Biles may double that. “It’s like a whole new team,” Weemer said.
