Outlook: With four starters back from a team that nearly won 20 games, the Fillies are looking to contend for the MSL West crown, just like they did a year ago when they finished second to Fremd. Barreiro has eight seniors who have been on the varsity since they were sophomores. Mass and Whigham were varsity starters as freshmen. “We have a lot of experience coming back,” said Barreiro. “The girls came through the feeder program together so they are a tight-knit group.” Barreiro likes her versatile guards, which includes Kirchoff, an all-area performer who averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals last season. The Fillies had a big postseason, defeating No. 1 Wheeling and No. 5 Prospect in the Libertyville sectional. “We had a real nice end to the season,” Barreiro said. “We started jelling at the right time. The girls got a taste of how they're capable of playing, and now they have their sights set high. They had a good summer and fall. They have worked very hard on the physical part of the game, with weight training. They are bigger and ready to go. We have a lot of senior leadership. They know they have one shot left and this is it.”
