Streamwood's Post excels at Ohio

Streamwood graduate Katie Post has become one of the best volleyball players in the Mid-American Conference.

Post, a 6-foot-3 junior outside hitter/middle blocker at Ohio University, leads the MAC in total blocks this season with 120. Her 1.35 blocks per set rank 16th in the nation among all NCAA Division I schools.

For the season overall Post has 143 blocks to go along with 291 kills, which is second on the Bobcats' team. Her .330 hitting percentage leads the team. Post, who has been named the MAC East offensive player of the week three times, also has 398 points and 24 aces on the season.

In helping Ohio to a 16-11 record thus far (8-6 MAC), Post was most recently named MAC player of the week last week after recording 9 kills and a career-high 5 aces in a win over Kent State and then coming back with 15 kills in a win over Eastern Michigan.

Sahagian at Tennessee: Bartlett alum Carly Sahagian, a true freshman on the University of Tennessee volleyball team, has made an immediate impact for the Lady Vols. Sahagian has 62 kills and 55 digs in her freshman campaign and the 6-2 outside hitter has helped Tennessee to a 21-5 record (12-4 Southeastern Conference) and a No. 22 national ranking. Her season highs include 12 digs against Chattanooga and 8 kills against South Carolina. Tennessee takes on No. 16 LSU, the SEC West leader, on Friday.

Lake Forest football: Three South Elgin graduates are having stellar seasons for Lake Forest College's football team, despite the Foresters being 8-2. Sophomore quarterback Pete Scaffidi, who is sharing time with Prospect alum Geoff Sobey, is 68-for-124 with 10 interceptions for 704 yards and 8 touchdowns. His 897 yard of total offense leads the team. Junior wide receiver Kevin Davis has caught a team-high 46 passes for 688 yards and 11 TDs, with his long of the year at 64 yards from Scaffidi. And, junior Josh Kabala has 39 catches for 292 yards and a touchdown.

In a recent 35-6 win over Knox College, Davis caught 3 TD passes and Scaffidi threw for 3 TDs, two of them to Davis.

Johnson at Charleston: St. Edward product Paige Johnson, a two-time honorary captain of the Daily Herald's All-Area team, continues to be the senior defensive standout for the College of Charleston volleyball team. Johnson now has 366 digs on the season (3.45 per set) and has now racked up 1,143 digs in her college career. College of Charleston is 25-5 and 13-1 in the Southern Conference. The Cougars can wrap up the league title with wins at home this weekend against Furman and Wofford.

Childers at St. Ambrose: St. Edward graduate Caiti Childers, a senior women's golfer at St. Ambrose University, recently concluded her fall season with three more Top 10 finishes, including a first-place effort at the Ashford Invitational Oct. 10. She also placed ninth in the Millikin Fall Classic and fourth in the Donald Ross Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For the fall season, Childers placed in the Top 10 in seven out of eight tournaments, including two first-place finishes. St. Ambrose will compete for conference and national honors in the spring of 2011.
