Brophey called up from Rockford
With Tomas Kopecky out of the lineup Saturday with an upper body issue, the Blackhawks recalled forward Evan Brophey from Rockford to fill his spot.
“This is a good opportunity for him,” Joel Quenneville said Brophey, who had 2 goals and plus-4 rating with the IceHogs.
“When we were talking to our guys who all went down to Rockford, we told them, ‘Hey, the guys who are deserving to come up are going to get the opportunity.’ It’s healthy that guys know it’s the objective down there and it’s the criteria for getting rewarded.
“He put himself in position to be the guy.”
As did Jeremy Morin, who was injured Friday with Rockford and missed Saturday’s game and also missed out on a chance to head to Chicago.
“He certainly would have been a candidate (for recall),” Quenneville said.
Brophey had 7:09 of ice time Saturday. He won four of five faceoffs and delivered three hits, including a bombshell in the first period.
Looking Souper:
Injured defenseman Brian Campbell (knee) took the ice for the first time Saturday, and Joel Quenneville liked what he saw.
“He skated today, did good,” Quenneville said. “A couple of practices with us will give us a better idea. He’s not too far away.”
