3-way race for Naperville mayor
Naperville voters will not have a primary election this year but, as expected, they will have a three-way race for mayor and 12 choices for four city council seats in the April 5 election.
Mayor George Pradel filed his nominating petitions first thing Monday morning and Councilman Kenn Miller filed Monday afternoon, joining Councilman Doug Krause who filed Nov. 15.
Three of the four incumbent city council members filed by Monday's deadline and nine challengers joined the race, guaranteeing at least one new council member will be seated in the spring.
Council candidates include incumbents Robert Fieseler, Richard Furstenau and Grant Wehrli. Joining them on the ballot are Naperville firefighter John Adair; local business owner Steve Chirico; stay-at-home father Wayne Floegel; recent Northern Illinois University graduate Ben Gross; Realtor Patricia A. “Patty” Gustin; business owner John J. Krummen; Vice President of the Naperville Community Television board of directors Joe McElroy; business owner Charles Schneider; and founder of Kids Teen Rider Tiffany Stephens.
The lottery to determine ballot order of candidates who simultaneously filed petitions to run for the council will take place at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the municipal center, 400 S. Eagle St.
The order of filing determines the position of the candidate's name on the ballot. Any petitions that were submitted after 8 a.m. on Nov. 15 will be appear in the order they were received.
Officials had expected more people to file because the city handed out 28 nominating packets.
