Christian Liberty nets 1A regional crown

Playing for only the second year in the IHSA state tournament, Christian Liberty Academy won its second straight Class 1A regional championship on Saturday.

The Chargers (13-16) topped St. Benedict Prep 25-18, 25-22 at North Shore Country Day in Wilmette to advance to the Somonauk sectional on Tuesday.

Christian Liberty will face Newark at 6 p.m.

Senior Annie Salsgiver led the Chargers against St. Benedict with 5 kills while also recorded a block and ace.

Beth Cunningham (4 digs, 1 block, 1 ace), Holly Swiderek (2 aces) and

Kelly Paul each had 2 kills.

Setting the Chargers offense were Cammie Kott (4 assists, 1 ace) and Jayna Rowland (4 assists).

“The girls were very excited to win another regional,” said CLA coach Natalie Salsgiver. “It was a good day for them.”
