Fire closes Naperville skate park

Naperville shredders will have to find a new place for their laser flips and nose grinds after a Thursday fire that is expected to close the Centennial Park Skate Facility for several weeks.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Zywanski said firefighters responded to the skate park at 6:28 p.m. Thursday for a call of smoke in the air.

“When we arrived we encountered a plastic ramp that was burning,” he said. “It was a pretty minor fire.”

The damage was enough, however, to force the park to be closed as Naperville Park District officials work with the manufacturer to replace the damaged ramp.

Naperville investigators are investigating the fire as an arson and Naperville Crime Stoppers are offering a $1,000 reward for information about the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call Naperville Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006 or the Naperville Police Department at (630) 420-6164.
