Cops: Wheaton man tried to rob same home twice

A 57-year-old Wheaton man faces residential burglary charges for trying to rob the same home twice in less than a month, police said Friday.

James C. Brooks was arrested Tuesday at his home on the 100 block of Blanchard following an investigation by Wheaton police of the burglaries that happened on Nov. 8 and Monday.

During last month's burglary, someone during the early evening hours entered the occupied home on the 1600 block of East Willow Avenue and removed a purse. The suspect entered the home through an unlocked door.

That same Wheaton home was locked about 11:30 p.m. Monday when the second burglary occurred. The suspect broke doorway glass and reached through to unlock the door, police said.

When the suspect entered the home, the resident, who was awakened by the noise, confronted the burglar. After being ordered several times by the resident to leave, the suspect fled empty-handed through the back door, authorities said.

The resident wasn't injured.

Glen Ellyn police helped Wheaton patrol officers and detectives identify Brooks. He is has been charged with two counts of residential burglary.

Brooks was being held Friday at DuPage County jail.
