Elburn war veteran will share his story
A local war veteran will share his experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan during a special program Wednesday at the Elburn Lions Club.
“A Soldier's Story,” featuring Army Sgt. Kevin Lamb, 22, of Elburn, is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the club, 500 Filmore St.
The presentation will include a slide show of images Lamb captured while serving in the 2nd and 4th Infantry Divisions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Event organizers said Lamb was stationed in each country for a year, working reconnaissance.
“One of the reasons we're doing this is so people will recognize the veterans,” Elburn Lions Club zone chairman Chris Halsey said. “These guys are over there putting their lives on the line for us.”
The event gets started with introductions and a “hero's welcome” followed by a meatloaf dinner at 6:45 p.m., Halsey said. Lamb's presentation begins at 7:30 p.m.
Halsey said the program is the first in a series of monthly presentations that the Elburn Lions Club hopes will generate interest in the charity organization. Although Elburn has the largest Lions Club in Illinois with about 170 members, he said, only a fraction visit the club regularly.
“We're trying to get the members that we don't see all the time,” Halsey said.
Reservations for Wednesday's dinner are available for $6 each by calling (630) 365-6315.
Upcoming programs, scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month, include presentations on guide dogs and cyberbullying.
