Benet puts on shooting clinic vs. Naperville North
Redwing junior Sidney Prasse treated everyone in attendance at Benet on Thursday night to a free shooting clinic.
Prasse helped lead a 37-point second quarter and shot 4 of 6 from 3-point territory as Benet rolled to a 64-36 win over Naperville North.
The Redwings victory came on the final night of play in the Holiday Tournament co-hosted by both Benet and Naperville North. Prasse led all scorers with 23 points.
"Lately I've been missing my first shot of the game, but once I get into the rhythm the shots start to fall," Prasse said.
Prasse also took on the role of slashing to the bucket. Redwings senior Ashley Veselik put a perfectly placed lead pass right on the finger tips of Prasse for an easy layup in the second quarter.
The play did not just demonstrate both Prasse's awareness to finish and Veselik's timely passing abilities. It also gave the Redwings a commanding 37-16 lead.
"(Veselik) is very generous with the ball," Prasse said. "She always kicks it out and is looking for the better shot."
Benet (11-5) led Naperville North 42-22 at halftime.
"Our shooting has been on," said Benet coach Peter Paul. "If we can shoot the ball well, we will be in every game."
To go along with her dominant night, Prasse had a host of teammates who shot well. Madeline Eilers and Mihayla Panko combined for five 3-pointers on the night.
"This year we're a lot more diverse in the lineup," Prasse said. "Our bench is very deep."
Eleven of the 17 Benet players who entered the game had at least 2 points.
The Huskies (5-9) battled to keep pace with Benet as speedy sophomore Zoe Swift finished the night with 9 points for Naperville North. Junior Shannon Bushman made effective cuts to the baskets all game and ended the contest with 9 points.
Naperville North coach Jacquie Discipio was not pleased with her team's defensive efforts.
"We looked like a bunch of individuals instead of playing loose like a team," Discipio said. "We have a lot of work to do on defense."
Benet shot nearly 60 percent from 3-point range as a team in the first half. The Redwings made 7 of 12 3-pointers in the first two quarters.
"Sidney was on tonight and we played well. Offensively she gets rid of that shot so fast," Paul said. "We boarded pretty well and battled hard."
