Candidates wasted money on TV ads

The elections are finally over, and as expected about half the candidates won and half lost. But all spent many dollars on advertising. The majority of those dollars were spent trying to tell us what was wrong with or bad about the opposing candidate in TV ads.

A CNN online poll showed that a vast majority of voters are not influenced by TV attack ads. With the ability to fast-forward through advertisements, many folks don't even bother to watch them. This leads me to believe that candidates wasted vast amounts of money.

A candidate who truly wanted to show that he or she was interested in helping the people might have taken that money and put it toward stocking a food pantry or perhaps buying winter coats for homeless citizens. A candidate from either party who showed this type of commitment to helping people would definitely get my vote.
