Dist. 214's Medina-Perez wins top social work honor
District 214 school social worker Marilyn Medina-Perez, now at Vanguard School in Arlington Heights, is the recipient of the prestigious 2010 Illinois School Social Worker of the Year Award.
Medina-Perez will be honored at a luncheon on Friday, Oct. 22, during the Illinois Association of School Social Workers' 40th annual conference at the Bloomington Normal Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
Each year the IASSW chooses to recognize a citizen, a school social worker and a legislator for their unique contributions in advocacy for children.
Wheeling High School's Assistant Principal for Student Services, Holly Ravitz, with the backing of parents, students, interns and colleagues, nominated Medina-Perez last year for her contributions as a social worker at that District 214 school.
Medina-Perez was selected from a field of outstanding, highly qualified nominees.
