Where will returning veterans find jobs?
It's time we start thinking of our troops coming home - what do we offer them? A parade, and what else? Not a job, something to support their family.
As in many wars, people sit back and let someone else do the fighting. In World War II everybody stuck together, working together. We don't have this anymore; we have everyone for himself. I don't see ads in the paper by large companies saying, "Calling all veterans, we want you."
All I see is continue with your education. But that doesn't put food on the tables. What veterans want are jobs - they don't want a handout. They have pride. Our troops fought for us to preserve freedom for us, and we somehow have turned our backs on them.
I have called all over America and talk to many people who care less. I am proud to say our local VFW Operation Airlift is doing something by sending boxes to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. We know what we have to do. And I think you should, too.
Our country is too lax. We need to think of America and remember that when our men and women went into the service their jobs were taken over by illegal immigrants. Don't let the politicians tell you they only are pickers in the field. I remember when our college kids used to pick apples, oranges, cherries from the trees and bushes, and now the illegal immigrants are doing it. Taking away the jobs of our college kids.
Wake up, America, and let's start working to get this corrected and bring back the America we used to know. Never forget veterans or our troops!
