Sullivan School walks, rolls
Anne Sullivan School in Prospect Heights Elementary District 23 will celebrate Walk and Roll to School Day with the help of a mini grant.
The Oct. 6 events promote the need to get more youngsters walking and biking to school.
Schools will have rallies, contests and other ways of showing students, parents and teachers the joy that comes with walking and biking to school, said the Active Transportation Alliance.
Six schools in the Chicago area received $500 each, and won a Safe Routes to School consultation for their entire district, safety patrol equipment, a banner, snack bars, T-shirts, signs and stickers.
The alliance wants to see biking and walking to school promoted as a boost to physical health and a way to improve air quality. Other schools that won are in Chicago, Oak Park, Elmhurst and Aurora.
