Hammer case continued:
The court case of a 15-year-old Schaumburg girl accused of putting her neighbor in a coma by attacking him with a hammer last March was continued without explanation to Tuesday, Oct. 19. The new date was set following a closed-door session of the prosecutor, assistant public defender and judge. The girl, who is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery, has been under psychiatric evaluation due to her behavior in custody. The Cook County state’s attorney’s office still plans to file a motion to move the case from juvenile court to adult court, officials said. The victim, 58-year-old Rajesh Thakkar, remains in physical therapy. He has lost vision in his right eye, speaks only sparingly and can walk for just short distances. The girl’s sister, 19-year-old Latifah Johnson, pleaded guilty last month to a charge of obstruction of justice for cleaning up Thakkar’s blood from the crime scene before police and paramedics arrived. Johnson received a sentence of four months in jail and two years of probation.
