Put Christ publicly back into Christmas

Our country was founded by people who firmly believed in God. About 80 percent of Americans are Christian, and therefore we are considered a Christian nation. For over 200 years, Christians publicly celebrated without question their major religious events. Christmas is now being attacked and a Nativity scene, a sign of their beliefs, is not allowed for public display.

Few seem to understand that religious beliefs were an integral part of the Declaration of Independence with “inalienable rights given to us by our Creator” and are the basis for the Constitution and the rule of law. All one has to do is see the facade over the Supreme Court building and around the entrances to Congress. Many biblical images can be seen there.

Our money was forged with the words “In God we trust.” Oaths for office include the words “So help me God” and we swear to tell the truth in court with those very same words including one hand placed on the Holy Bible.

At Christmastime, Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, Son of God. This is the same God we swear to in oaths, stated on our money and contained in the Bible. It's hypocritical when all levels government and businesses shut down during this event but deny its importance in our history. Happy holidays doesn't define what holiday is being celebrated. It takes Christ out of Christmas. It's time to put Christ back in Christmas and declare a merry Christmas and peace on Earth to all.
