Nurse at Westmont facility accused of stealing painkillers
A DuPage County grand jury handed up a felony indictment this week against a registered nurse accused of stealing painkillers from her Westmont employer.
Pamela J. Standley-Liesz is charged with unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance and obstructing justice.
The grand jury indicted the 58-year-old Hinsdale woman Tuesday, according to court records released Wednesday. She is free on $500 bail.
Police said Standley-Liesz stole 150 to 360 pills containing the painkiller hydrocodone on at least two separate occasions in April and July while employed at ManorCare Health Services at 512 E. Ogden Avenue in Westmont.
The facility provides nursing services for short-term, hospice and respite care, according to its website. ManorCare officials did not respond to a Daily Herald phone call seeking comment Wednesday.
Defense attorney George Lynch also was unavailable.
Police declined to say for what purpose Standley-Liesz committed the alleged thefts. The criminal indictment states she also destroyed the "controlled substance proof of use" records associated the pills in an attempt to cover up the crime.
Standley-Liesz, who lives in an apartment on the 700 block of North York Road, was arrested July 19. She is expected to plead not guilty when arraigned Sept. 15 before DuPage Circuit Judge Daniel Guerin.
