District 59's reserves are way out of line
I just read in the local section of another newspaper that District 59 is balancing its $5.4 million budget shortfall with part of its $100 million in reserve funds. It's total budget for next year is about $90 million.
It is outrageous that a school district with a $90 million budget has a $100 million reserve. How many school districts have a similar situation? Why is the state giving such districts any money?
There should be a limit on how much reserves a school district can accumulate. The local taxpayers deserve a dividend or refund.
