Schaumburg a finalist in excellence award

The National League of Cities has announced the village of Schaumburg is a finalist for the 2010 Awards for Municipal Excellence - and the only finalist from Illinois.

The awards recognize cities and villages for outstanding programs that improve the quality of life in America's communities. Schaumburg was chosen for both the Schaumburg Child and Family Center and the Comprehensive Green Action Plan. The Child and Family Center is a day care center serving low-income families, allowing parents to go back to work or school.

The Green Action Plan represents the practice of more than 20 programs that strengthen the village's commitment to the environment.
