Lakemoor Fest offers unique fireworks display

Lakemoor is preparing for what organizers say is one of the best firework displays in the Midwest this weekend as part of Lakemoor Fest.

The annual celebration, which is being held from Friday, Aug. 13, through Sunday, Aug. 15, will feature carnival rides, games and live music.

But the real highlight of the weekend will be the 30-minute fireworks display.

"It's one of the best firework shows around," said Village Administrator David Alarcon.

Alarcon said. He estimated crowds of 30,000 to 40,000. The fest, which will be located in Morrison Park at 235 Route 120, will feature a break in the music on Saturday night from 9:30 to 10 p.m. for the fireworks.

"What makes it really unique is that not only can you see the fireworks up in the sky, but the reflection on the lake makes it really unique," Alarcon said.

Friday night will feature the band Jack the Tripper from 6 to 11 p.m. On Saturday night, Hans and the Hormones will play from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will resume at 10 p.m.

There will be plenty of entertainment for families including a children's fishing derby on Saturday morning.

The derby, which will start at 9 a.m., is always a favorite and will be run by the village president, Alarcon said.

The fest will also include a treasure hunt for children and a child safety photo ID booth set up by the police department.
