Former Wheaton College president dies
Wheaton College President Emeritus J. Richard Chase died Friday at Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream.
Chase, 79, served as the sixth president of the college and led the school from 1982 to 1993.
During his tenure he oversaw the beginning of the college's first doctoral program in clinical psychology and the founding of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics.
The school's original building, Blanchard Hall, was renovated during that time and Anderson Commons was built.
After retiring from Wheaton in 1993, he taught and served on the board at Tyndale Seminary in the Netherlands and continued to preach and speak. He is survived by his wife, Mary, two children and seven grandchildren.
