Bob Probert's family to publish player's memoir
TORONTO -- The family of Bob Probert has decided to proceed with a memoir the longtime NHL enforcer was working on before his death.
"Tough Guy" is to published Oct. 26 by HarperCollinsCanada. It will recount Probert's career with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks when he was one of the game's most feared players.
The book also will delve into his off-ice troubles. Probert struggled with drinking problems during his 16-year career.
Probert was co-writing the book with Kirstie McLellan Day before he died last month of a heart attack at 45 while boating with his family.
His wife, Dani Probert, says it was her husband's dream to publish the book, and he wanted "to tell it like it really was -- behind the headlines."
