Farmers market open: The Aurora Farmers Market at West Aurora Plaza, 1951 W. Galena Blvd., is open from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sept. 15. The market offers fresh, locally grown produce, prepared foods and handcrafted products. The city also offers a Farmers Market from 8 a.m. until noon Saturdays at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway. Details on both markets are available by contacting the Special Events Division at (630) 844-4731 or by visiting aurora-il.org.Trail work under way:Construction is under way on a new section of the Fox River Trail that will bring the popular pathway closer to connecting with downtown Aurora and points beyond. When completed this month, the half-mile extension will run along the west side of the Fox River from Rathbone Avenue north to where a bridge will be built to connect the trail with Hurd Island. The future trail bridge behind Aurora's animal control facility will provide access over the west channel of the river. A paved trail then will be constructed and run along the west side of Hurds Island to the North Avenue bridge.Quarry Beach input:The Batavia Park District has scheduled more meetings for residents to discuss what should be done with Hall Quarry Beach. The meetings are all at the beach, 400 S. Water St.; if it rains, they will move to the Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St. The meetings are at 6 p.m. Thursday, Tuesday, Aug. 12 and 24; and at noon Sunday and Aug. 18.Wildlife center fundraiser:The Fox Valley Wildlife Center is hosting a fundraising night at 8 p.m. Thursday at Zanies Comedy Club at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles. The night will feature Butch Bradley who has appeared numerous times on Comedy Central. Tickets are $25 and there is a two-drink minimum. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling Andrea at (630) 377-2847.Park staff availability:The Geneva Park District is extending the hours of operation for the administrative office at the Geneva Community Center, 710 Western Ave. Starting Tuesday it will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends. Staff can help with program registration, purchase of pool passes and fitness memberships and answer other questions.Special ed records destroyed:Kaneland School District 302 will destroy temporary special education records of students who graduated, transferred out of the district or were dismissed from special education services before the 2004-2005 school year. Students and their parents or guardians can inspect or receive the records before Aug. 15. Call (630) 365-5111 ext. 110.
