Report of two-month vacation untrue
While working at Winfield Village Hall on July 8, I was shocked as I read the letter to the editor that was published in your paper. The letter stated that I was out of the country on vacation for two months.
For anyone who actually believed that letter, rest assured that I am back in the office after a 16-day family vacation to Arizona. I really cannot believe a newspaper would print a letter with such blatantly false information without verifying it. More importantly, what possessed this paper to tell people that my house would be vacant for two months and expose my family and my home to possible burglary, vandalism or worse? No one in public office should have to worry about their family's safety.
Unfortunately, there will always be people who try to submit letters filled with outlandish lies and sometimes under fictitious names. As far as I am concerned, I will continue to take a positive approach. Good things are happening in Winfield. We are developing a new Town Center with a beautiful River Walk. We have a great village board, dedicated volunteers and talented, hardworking staff. We all share a common personal agenda - to do what is best for our residents. In Winfield, we are working together and making a difference.
