All kids win at weekend Mundelein youth run
All kids will win at Mundelein Park District's free youth run on Saturday, July 3.
This "just for kids" Youth Run gives ages 4 to 10 a chance to have fun, challenge themselves and feel a sense of pride for participating in the race with their very own take-home special event medal. Participating children also receive a coupon for a free ice cream courtesy of Mundelein Dairy Queen. The run is free and no registration is required.
The run begins at 9 a.m. and is part of the Mundelein Park District's Independence Day festivities being held at Keith Mione Community Park, 1401 N. Midlothian Road in Mundelein.
Also included in the July 3 events are the community favorite 5K Freedom Classic, and the 1-mile Family/Leisure Walk.
The professionally chip-timed 5K is open to ages 8 to adult. It starts at 8 a.m. and takes runners from Community Park through scenic Loch Lomond. Race day registration on July 3 is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Runners also can register in advance at signmeup.com/68982 or in-person at the Mundelein Community Center on Midlothian Road.
The cost is $24 in advance or $30 on race day. The first 450 paid registrants receive a free T-shirt, and free child care is available for ages 3 and older. For more details or to download a course map, contact Nora at (847) 566-0650, ext. 28, or ntniemi@mundeleinparks.org. You can also visit mundeleinparks.org.
For a more leisurely pace, parents, kids, tots in strollers, teams, community groups and more can share a healthy stride around Community Park with the Family/Leisure Walk. The walk starts at 8:25 a.m. and is open to all ages. Cost is $6 for ages 7 and older, with ages 6 and under free. The first 75 to register also receive a free event T-shirt. Registration can also be done at signmeup.com or at the Mundelein Community Center.
