Addison man charged with child porn

An Addison man is the latest to become snared in an Internet sting in which police target child predators who use cyberspace as their hunting ground.

James Young, 24, appeared Friday in DuPage County bond court on aggravated child pornography charges. He must post $7,500 to be freed.

Authorities monitoring illegal child pornography websites identified Young as a user and, after searching his home Thursday, found illicit images and movies on one of his three laptops, prosecutors said.

Investigators with Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office led the sting, with assistance from Addison and Glendale Heights police. Madigan oversees the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, one of 62 similar groups nationwide designed to investigate online child exploitation crimes.

Most area police agencies take part in the task force, which has made arrests such as that involving Young a frequent occurrence in DuPage County.

Young does not have a criminal record. He will be arraigned Aug. 16 before DuPage Circuit Judge Daniel Guerin. If convicted, Young faces a possible prison term and would have to register as a sex offender.
