Island Lake man hurt in DUI crash

A 36-year-old Island Lake man is in serious condition after crashing into a tree near Wonder Lake late Sunday night.

Thomas Bors was driving his 1996 Geo Prism in the west lane on the 7300 block of Barnard Mill Road at 10:28 p.m. Sunday when he swerved off the north side of the road, over-corrected, then swerved back across the road and hit a tree, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Alcohol is suspected in the crash, the news release said. It is unclear if he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police say.

Bors was flown via Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he is listed in serious condition.

He was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a revoked driver's license and improper lane usage. He is expected to appear in court on July 16.
