Shuffle to library today:Keith Van Horne, a member of the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears, and other former football players will visit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, to give away free U.S. 2010 Census items, sign autographs and pose for pictures. The event is to celebrate a successful census effort in Elgin this year. Elgin road closure:South Lancaster Circle at McLean Boulevard in South Elgin will be closed to traffic on Saturday so that crews can grind down pavement before the pavement can be replaced. Local access to the subdivision will be through North Lancaster Circle. Signs will be posted.VFW open house:Tri-City Evergreen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2298, 117 S. First St. in West Dundee, will host a family picnic and open house from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. The event features a hot dog plate for $5, hamburger plate or bratwurst plate for $6. Each plate includes a salad, chips and fruit cup. Join the post members for games and raffles and meet the new officers for 2010-11. The pig roast will be held from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the church. It costs $10 to attend, and that includes a plate of food and games for the children. You'll also have a chance to tour the church with Pastor John Greve.
