911 recording released in Metra chief's death
A recently released 911 emergency call shows the head of Chicago's commuter train system called a friend and said goodbye shortly before taking his own life.
Metra Executive Director Phil Pagano died May 7 when he stepped in front of a Metra train near his home in Crystal Lake.
The McHenry County Sheriff's office released a recording of the approximately 3-minute call last week.
In the call, a friend tells the dispatcher that Pagno had called him and said goodbye. The caller tells the dispatcher where he believed Pagano was headed.
The 60-year-old Pagano's death came shortly after an investigation began into claims he received an unapproved bonus.
In a suicide note to the Metra Board of Directors, Pagano professed his innocence.
He was head of Metra for two decades.
