Franklin Park man admits drunken driving in 2005 Crystal Lake crash
A Franklin Park man faces up to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to driving drunk when he flipped his SUV at a busy Crystal Lake intersection and hit another vehicle, seriously injuring its driver.
David A. Lobb, 31, of the 1900 block of North Rose Street, admitted to felony aggravated DUI stemming from the Nov. 3, 2005, crash at Randall Road and McHenry Avenue.
The charge, a Class 4 felony, is punishable by a sentence ranging from probation to 12 years in prison. Lobb's sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19.
Court records indicate Lobb was driving from a day of playing golf in Crystal Lake when he attempted to turn off McHenry Avenue onto southbound Randall Road and lost control of his Jeep Cherokee.
The SUV flipped over and collided with a car driven by a 37-year-old Crystal Lake man who, according to Assistant McHenry County State's Attorney Ryan Blackney, suffered numerous fractures to his right leg in the collision.
A blood test taken after the crash, court documents state, show Lobb had a blood-alcohol level of 0.177 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
His attorney, Henry Sugden, said that after nearly five years of fighting the case, Lobb decided pleading guilty was the "right thing to do."
"David was ready to admit his guilt and accept his punishment," he added.
