Crystal Lake man charged in five-car crash
A Crystal Lake man is charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a multivehicle crash after he pulled out of a driveway and started a pileup, according to police.
Areli Samano-Rios, 30, of the 300 block of McHenry Avenue, pulled a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo out of a driveway Saturday evening on the north side of Virginia Street near the intersection of Linn Avenue and struck a 1999 Acura TI, starting a five-vehicle crash, police said.
Samano-Rios was charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, failure to yield exiting a private drive, driving while license revoked and operation of an uninsured vehicle, police said.
Witnesses at the scene told Crystal Lake police officers that the man fled the scene of the crash on foot, but Samano-Rios was quickly located and taken into custody, according to police.
Four people involved in the crash reported injuries. Three were treated for minor injuries on the scene, but one passenger was taken to Centegra Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock, police said, where she was treated and released.
The other vehicles in the crash included a 2007 Nissan Maxima, a 2003 Toyota Camry and a 2010 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, police said. Three of the vehicles in the crash were towed from the scene due to extensive damage.
Samano-Rios was transferred to the McHenry County jail and has a bond hearing set for today.
