'Lame duck' Senate vote is important

On Nov. 2, Illinois voters will vote twice for a U.S. senator - once for an individual to serve a new six-year term and once to fill the unexpired Obama-Burris Senate seat. Through this special election, Illinoisans have a unique opportunity to seat our next senator before the "lame duck" session begins.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have plans for this lame duck session. They want to utilize the votes of retiring senators and the votes of Democrats who were defeated in November to push through the most unpopular elements of their agenda. Included in their lame duck agenda are plans to approve billions in pork spending, enact massive tax increases and approve legislation that would hurt small businesses and kill jobs. By electing Republican Mark Kirk, the Democrats' tax-and-spend agenda for the lame duck session is derailed because they will no longer have the necessary number of votes to push their damaging agenda through.

All eyes will be on Illinois on Nov. 2 to see if the Pelosi-Reid agenda can be stopped. To read more about the significance of this historic election, go to www.saveusfromthelameduck.com.
