Motorcyclist admits driving drunk in 2008 crash

A 48-year-old McHenry man faces a sentence ranging from probation to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday to a felony drunken driving charge filed after a 2008 motorcycle crash injured him and his passenger.

Scott L. Didier, of the 200 block of West Riverside Drive, admitted to an aggravated driving under the influence charge claiming he was intoxicated Aug. 19, 2008, when his motorcycle clipped an oncoming Jeep north of McHenry, sending it and its riders skidding across the roadway.

McHenry County Sheriff's police said Didier was northbound in the 3000 block of Ringwood Road, north of Route 120, when his 1998 Harley Davidson veered into the path of southbound Jeep Wrangler. Both drivers attempted to avoid a head-on collision, the motorcycle sideswiped the Jeep and fell to the pavement.

Didier's passenger, Heather Derer, then 34, of McHenry, suffered a broken leg. Didier suffered injuries that required him to be airlifted from the crash scene to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment, police said.

The driver and passenger of the Jeep were treated at the scene, police said.

At attorney in the case said testing later showed Didier was driving with blood alcohol level above 0.2 percent more than twice the legal limit.

Didier, who is free on bond, is scheduled return to court Dec. 10 for sentencing.
