Extra police on lookout for impaired drivers this weekend
Campton Hills police and the Kane County state's attorney have impaired drivers in their sights this holiday weekend.
The Campton Hills Police Department announced Friday it will have an "intensified enforcement effort" late in the evening on Sunday, looking for impaired drivers and unbelted motorists. Money for the effort is coming from the Illinois Department of Transportation's traffic safety division.
Meanwhile, the fifth "no refusal" campaign by the Kane County state's attorney's office will take place. Several unnamed police agencies will participate, according to a news release.
During a "no-refusal" operation, extra police are on patrol looking for impaired motorists, and an assistant state's attorney is on standby to help police draft search warrants to compel suspects to submit to blood, breath and urine tests as required by Illinois' Implied Consent law. Those who then still refuse to submit to testing might face additional charges, such as obstructing justice.
Previous efforts have been conducted in the Tri-Cities, the northern Fox Valley and in unincorporated areas.
"No-refusal" will take place late in the evening on Saturday and Sunday, States Attorney John Barsanti said.
Barsanti began the "no-refusal" operations in 2008.
