Reward offered for St. Charles burglary suspect
St. Charles police are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who tried to break into a west side home earlier this month.
Police described the suspect as having a "skater" look, with patchy facial hair, a dark colored Mohawk, and large-gauge earrings about the size of a quarter in diameter. He is an estimated 18 to 21 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a slender build and pointed jaw, police said.
The apparent burglary attempt took place about 10:20 a.m. July 5 on the 3600 block of Provence Drive. Officers were dispatched after the victim heard what sounded like someone trying to pick a lock on the front door.
Police said they arrived just as the burglar entered the residence with a small silver tool in his hand. He then ran back out of the front door and fled in an unknown direction.
Anyone who sees the suspect should call 911 immediately, police said. Other information should be directed to Detective Dan Kuttner at (630) 443-3863 or Cmdr. Jerry Gatlin at (630) 443-3739.
Police did not specify a reward amount.
