A year later, Streamwood police say hair leads to salon robbery suspect

A year after a break-in at a Streamwood hair salon, police charged a 42-year-old Elgin man with burglary after authorities say DNA found at the scene linked him to the crime.

A Cook County judge set Timothy Lucy's bond at $100,000 Wednesday in Rolling Meadows after prosecutors said he broke into a Great Clips, located in the 900 block of Irving Park Road, last August.

While patrolling the area on Aug. 31, 2009, a Streamwood officer noticed a broken glass door at the salon, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mark Javier. Further investigation revealed $170 missing from the cash register and blood on a shelf where the owner kept the salon's cash register, Javier said. That blood sample was sent to the Illinois State Police's crime lab where forensic tests matched the DNA to Lucy, of the 500 block of Lindburg Court, Javier said.

Lucy's background includes a 2005 conviction for burglary for which he was sentenced to seven years in prison and a 2005 conviction for retail theft, for which he was sentenced to three years, Javier said.

If convicted, Lucy could face between three and seven years in prison. He next appears in court on Aug. 10.
