Need to fix our addiction to oil
The U.S. is often described as a "fix-it" nation; presented with a problem, we Americans actively seek to fix it. The problem is that some things, like the out-of-control oil spill in the Gulf, can't be fixed.
Perhaps BP can cap the well, but that doesn't mean that this problem is fixed. The damage to beaches, to the ecologically significant marsh systems, and to the ecology of the Gulf - not the mention the livelihoods of individuals and the health of the affected communities - simply cannot be fixed any time soon or if ever. We are slaves to oil and that is what we have to fix.
