Judge delays Drew Peterson trial until July 8

Former Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson's trial in the death of his third wife has been delayed until July.

After much discussion with Peterson's defense attorneys Wednesday, Circuit Judge Stephen White set a July 8 date to start jury selection for the trial in the 2004 death of Kathleen Savio. Peterson's trial originally was set to begin June 14.

Defense attorney Joel Brodsky had asked for a delay until Aug. 23, but the judge says he's reluctant to go any later into the summer.

Peterson has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in Savio's death. He's also been named a suspect but isn't charged in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Peterson denies any involvement in her disappearance.
