Wauconda man dies in one-car wreck

Wauconda police officials said speed may have been a factor in an accident that left a Wauconda man dead Monday evening.

William Street, 48, was killed when his car went off the road and into a wooded area on Anderson Road, north of Saddle Wood Drive, at 6:39 p.m., Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said.

He said Street died from multiple blunt traumas, adding an autopsy would be performed on Tuesday.

Wauconda Police Chief Doug Larssen said that while the investigation is ongoing, multiple witnesses reported the car was driving at a high rate of speed just before the crash Monday evening.

Larssen said the car had turned off Route 59 onto Anderson, which has multiple sharp turns.

He said the car went off the road at one of the sharp turns near Saddle Wood and hit a tree.

"We know he was heading home at the time of the accident, but are still trying to determine if alcohol also played a role in the crash," he said.

He said the crash remains under investigation, with the help of the Major Crash Assistance Team.
