Jury selection date set in Schaumburg drug case
Jury selection for a Schaumburg man charged for the second time with dealing cocaine is scheduled for June 28.
Nathan L. Rousseau, 35, of the 1700 block of Poplar Place in Schaumburg, appeared Friday morning at the Rolling Meadows courthouse dressed in a bright yellow jumpsuit. Schaumburg police said they searched his home on Oct. 21 and found $10,000 of cocaine, or about 5 ounces. They charged him with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Judge Thomas P. Fecorrata on Friday set a June 28 jury selection date for Rousseau, who was arrested in 2003 in Schaumburg for the same charge at a different apartment complex. He was convicted and police said he was released from prison not long before they arrested him again last year. The arrest was a result of a monthlong investigation, police said. Rousseau is being held on a $300,000 bond.
Rousseau's attorney, Chuck Murphy, asked Fecorrata for more time so he could locate a post office worker mentioned in the Schaumburg police report. The worker's name wasn't listed in the report. Murphy said he wanted to interview the worker for evidence to help Rousseau's case, but the fact that the worker is a federal employee could mean more red tape in arranging it.
Fecorrata ignored the request and said he wanted to assign a trial date instead of waiting longer. He's been issuing continuances for six months.
"You get with the state, you find out who this person is, and find out if they want to divulge it," he said.
