Top cop contract up for vote:The Island Lake village board is scheduled to approve the contract of new police Chief William McCorkle tonight. The terms of the deal have not yet been made public. McCorkle was hired last month after interim Chief Anthony Sciarrone was demoted to sergeant. Tonight's meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 at village hall, 3720 Greenleaf Ave.Animal cruelty charged:A Round Lake Heights man has been charged with misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and animal cruelty after beating a dog with a large stick last week, Round Lake Heights Police Chief Don Johnson said. Johnson said police were called to the 600 block of South Cedarwood Drive on May 7 with a report that a man was found beating a dog with a thick stick. After investigating, it was determined that Michael Donelli, 59, was upset that his son's dog had escaped and was punishing it. Police arrested Donelli, Johnson said, then called in officials from Save A Pet animal shelter near Grayslake, who have custody of the dog that was being beaten and a second dog. Bond details and a future court date for Donelli are unknown.Well test discount:The Lake County Health Department will offer reduced water testing rates from May 17 through May 21. The offer is in conjunction with an open house at the new Lake County Central Permit Facility and Environmental Laboratory, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. During this week, the normal $16 fee to test for bacteria and nitrates will be reduced to $10 for well owners, though no one will be refused due to an inability to pay. Private well users are urged to have their drinking water tested annually. Lake County residents can pick up sterile test bottles to be filled and returned for analysis with results ready in about three working days. Call (847) 377-8020 or email HealthEHS@lakecountyil.gov.
