Lightning likely sparked Bloomingdale Twp. house fire

Lightning likely is to blame for a Wednesday afternoon house fire in Bloomingdale Township, authorities said.

The blaze on the 5N500 block of Abilene Trail was reported about 5:15 p.m.

The blaze started in the attic of the two-story house and spread to the second floor. Residents who were home at the time fled after discovering the fire.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours.

Damage was estimated at $175,000.

Crews from Bloomingdale and eight other fire departments responded.
