Slaughter adds D-lineman for Bloomington rematch

Looking to avenge a one-point to a divisional rival, the Chicago Slaughter hit theroad Saturday to challenge the Bloomington Extreme.

Saturday night's match-up will be the second meeting for these Central North Division teams. The Slaughter (1-3) suffered a 27-26 loss at the Sears Centre Arena to the Extreme (2-2) after missing an extra point that would have tied the game.

In shore up the defense, the Slaughter has picked up defensive lineman Ron Ellington, a South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year out of Catawba College. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Ellington played for the El Paso Generals of the Indoor Football League last year and was named Firstt Team All IFL after leading the Lone Star Division in sacks.

The Slaughter is coming off a 34-33 win over the Alaska Wild on March 21 with a solid performance by quarterback Randy Hutchison (Northern Michigan University). Wide receiver Shatone Powers (Northern Illinois University) had 5 catches for 62 yards.

"We've worked hard to solidify issues on the offensive line and QB Randy Hutchison is finding his groove and developing a stronger leadership role and chemistry with the guys," said Slaughter GM Alan Perkins. "The addition of Ellington will have an immediate impact to our defensive play and we're excited to get him on the field this weekend. We are not afraid to shake things up until we get it right."

The kickoff in Bloomington Extreme is 7:05 p.m. Saturday, and the next Slaughter home game is April 24 against the Kent Predators.
