Pharmaceutical company Astellas building new HQ in Glenview

A Japanese pharmaceutical company that's building its headquarters for the Americas in a Chicago suburb is getting $4 million in tax credits from the state.

Gov. Pat Quinn attended Thursday's groundbreaking at the new Astellas Pharma US site in Glenview. Officials say the headquarters will create 150 new jobs.

The drugmaker is planning to move to the new building in about two years. Employees will move from the company's current site in Deerfield.

Quinn praised the company for its environmentally-friendly building practices.

The governor says Astellas will take advantage of the same tax credits the state gave to Ford Motor Co.

Ford announced in January it would bring 1,200 new jobs to Illinois by shifting production of the new Explorer SUV to its Chicago assembly plant.
