Crystal Lake house under construction 'total loss' after fire
A multimillion dollar house under construction in Crystal Lake has been deemed "a total loss" after a late Friday night fire, authorities said Saturday.
Firefighters arrived 9:47 p.m. Friday to the structure fire on the 3600 block of Berry Court in Crystal Lake. When they approached the two-story house, they found flames in the garage and in the roof.
Because of a lack of fire hydrants in the area, 10 tenders, which are vehicles that carry water, responded to the scene, along with crews and equipment from multiple fire departments, officials said. The fire was brought under control around 1:14 a.m.
No injuries were reported, authorities said.
Fire investigators were trying to determine what caused the blaze.
The house was "a total loss" with damage estimated at more than $3.5 million, according to a news release issued by the Crystal Lake Fire Department.
