Census should stay on point

You can't watch TV or read a paper without seeing a PR about "The Census."

They highlight the need to fill out the form so that we get the right number of representatives in our government and our share of the tax dollars. And of course we all want that. But I have a few questions of my own.

For example: 1. Why do they need to know if I own my home? 2. Why do they need to know if I'm Hispanic? 3. Why do they need to know my race? It seems to me those questions have NOTHING to do with how many representatives or tax share my town, school, state receive. If we must answer any question the government decides to ask us, where will it stop?

Like many good ideas, the census has become a distortion of its original meaning. If the reason for the census, then keep the questions focused on how many there are of us not what color or where we or our forefathers came from.
