Campton Township man charged with threatening deputies
A Campton Township man threatened to shoot four Kane County sheriff's deputies with their own guns early Tuesday after one of the officers shot at his pit bull in self-defense, according to police.
Christopher A. Fillmore, 22, was charged with four Class 3 felony counts of threatening a public official after the incident at his residence on the 43W900 block of Fox Hill Court, west of St. Charles.
Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said a group of deputies responded about 1 a.m. to a loud party at Fillmore's garage. As they arrived, he said, two pit bulls "charged" the officers, biting one of them in the hand. The deputy who was bitten then fired a single round at the dog "to prevent a further attack," but missed, Gengler said.
Fillmore, who was able to get the dogs under control, initially was only ticketed for having a loud party and loose dogs. But as the officers left his residence, police said, he threatened to "take the deputies' guns away from them and shoot the deputies."
"Obviously, we take that pretty seriously," Gengler said.
Fillmore, who is scheduled to appear in court June 17, was being held in the county jail late Tuesday, and would need to pay $3,500 to be released. Court records show he also faces felony charges of mob action and aggravated battery in an unrelated case pending in Kane County.
Gengler said the deputy who was bitten didn't require medical attention.
"It doesn't sound like it was too bad, luckily," he said. "Those things (pit bulls) have quite a bite."
