New land deals eyed The Lake County Forest Preserve District board could approve three new land deals at its meeting Tuesday, April 13. One proposal calls for the $360,000 purchase of a 10-acre addition to the Oak-Hickory Forest Preserve in Wadsworth. A second deal calls for a 5-acre addition to the Singing Hills preserve in Volo, at a cost of $248,000. The third deal would add less than an acre to the Greenbelt Forest Preserve in Waukegan, at a cost of $110,000. The forest board is set to meet after the Lake County Board session ends at the county government building in Waukegan.Wauconda looking for village mottoWauconda officials announced they are looking for residents to submit ideas for a motto or slogan for the community. The new motto is part of the strategic goals for the village. Officials are looking for a slogan that provokes thought and attention, and is related to the community. Residents are encouraged to email ideas to Assistant Village Administrator Linda Krajniak at lkrajniak@wauconda-il.gov. Submissions will be taken until Aug. 1. Village officials plan to honor the winner at a village board meeting.Brainerd quest seeks volunteersBrainerd Community Center Inc., which is leading an effort to renovate the former Libertyville High School for use as a community center, is seeking volunteers. Major events are planned this year, but several volunteer and board member spots are vacant and the group is asking the community for help. Anyone interested in the effort can apply. Positions and committees in need of staffing include publicity chairman, public relations, work day coordinator, grant writing, fundraising, historic preservation, and event planning.
